Xenon flashes tend to overexpose in some situations. This page documents shortly how I modified a selfie ring light for Sony Multiport. Of course it also could be used with other protocols; See the camera section to adapt it to other interfaces.

For a cheap ring light with adjustable white and a diffusor, action has a 2€ selfie ring light. Inside there is 14500 LiPo-battery with 400mAh.

The PCB has a two ICs, one is the driver with button control, the other the charger. Replace the driver IC with an MCU of your choice.

As an alternative for the light from action, take care of the diffusor plastic yourself and chose LEDs for your need. There are ARGB PCB-rings with WS2812 LEDs. For white only, use high CRI white LEDs (>90+) or even consider full-spectrum LEDs for colour accuracy.
