Life hacks

A short collection of life hacks I've learned about.

- ⓘbaking soda vs baking powder
- read Recipes for for baking (sugar free/less), cooking and basic knowledge.
- ⓘthe magic of glue
- ⓘthe magic of tape
- ⓘthe magic of fluids
- ⓘthe curse of plastics
- as a woman with abdominal pain, get a heating belt you can use with a power-bank as a portable alternative to a hottie, e.g. a cheap one from 🛒Aliexpress (~9€).

Secret tips

Secret tips

Quit eating sugar, it helps (see recipes for more knowledge). Check if taking zinc helps. Feel if avoiding dairy products has an effect on you.

- For skin peeling use salt grains in suitable soap. If pimple has hair in pore, pull hair first with tweezers. Get injection needles to use for cosmetics (they are sterile, lasercut-sharp and cheap).
- Upgrade your watch with Chinese sapphire glass from aliexpress (~15-20€) and press in with wood in bench vise
- Upgrade your hifi-stereo amp or car radio with bluetooth
- either for 30pin iPod connector or 3.5mm/RCA cinch or with FM-transmitter (~3€))
- silica gel bag in a box for de-humidification / drying: reuse by baking dry again before it gets soggy.
- Learn key combinations, play typing games like https://zty.pe and proper finger typing. Don't be a reliant mouse nudger or touch fondeler.

Life Lessons

Following is randomly written down wisdom - or so I find.

I'm ready!

I'm ready!

- Write down and archive the stuff you do cleanly. No education and experiences means stillstand. Stillstand always degrades to less. Love and invest (esp.time and knowledge) into your children.
- Everybody sucks until they don't.
- Keep your curiosity. Act. Failures are an educational lesson and no soul burdon.
- Never be a prisoner of your past. It was just a lesson, not a life sentence.
- Always salvage the BMC of battery packs! You may still need them. Always label your components.
- “Use the Flux, Luke!” - Soldering SMD without flux is just wrong. Clean afterwards with isopropyl alcohol and toothbrush.
- Always ask questions - yourself too. If you found a solution, it is not the only one. Find more and/or keep refining. Change your angles. Be precise, sort your words first.
- Flush&Wash: Soap works, you know?! Don't gross out others.
- Always use flexible or PCB-wire on PCB pads. The leverage of thick rigid wire might rip the pad off.
- Always think before typing and/or pressing return. always read output like errors and warnings.
- RTFM: Read The Freaking Manual. Use the wiki pages. See –help or man pages. See for tutorials/guides/disasseblies. Read the technical comments/posts.
- Always search if there is a good answer before. Communities like the ones on reddit and expert forums are awesome, you get directed to the knowledge needed. There are even awesome Discord and/or Telegram communities.
- Be kind :) Life/Universe will give back what you seed. Music can influence your energy/mood/being - words too.
- remind yourself of Schulz-von-thun and 4Komminikationsmodell. ¿Questions can also say a message. Always feel into the other person. Tryout probable outcomes.
- Don't rely on AI, there might be better ways - don't be lazy. First and last part of conversation have higher weight. Learn about its function and token and probabilities and stuff.
- https://archive.org is your best friend. Google translate is awesome for translating non-english websites. Consider various sources like reddit, expert forums and even youtube videos. Ask ChatGPT et al. for starting points and pages you can read up on. Don't forget to check/validate your sources.
- to save some tutorials in a single html page that is portable and looks as original, use the following plugin: Save Page WE
- For translations dict.cc (and its mobile/pocket verions) for english, [leo.org] also for franko-languages. AI is good in translations and grammar correction too if you precise your questions.
- No backup? No pity. Ok, yes, but why do you make me feel it? Could have been different if acted before. Try to recover pictures/photos with this.
- Reduce, reuse, recycle: both in software and RL! Collect your garbage. You are responsible for what you get.
- Leftovers as takeaway.
- Quit smoking. If you stop smoking, don't litter env with tips of cigarettes. Get a portable ashtray.
- Improve on presentations: If you take 3 things to improve before and you succeed on 2 of them, you are way good!
- Everything done daily for 3 weeks becomes normality. Go by bike instead of car.
- Take 3 rule: If everybody takes 3-5 pieces of trash, the world is a cleaner place.
- Use rubber: don't surf the internet without blocking by uBlock origin for firefox.
- save the environment: if you must listen to music as yt-video, audiostream only with Music Mode for YouTube™
- for transporting bulky things in your car, just an old backplane of a cupboard to lay in trunk for sliding and protection.

Fun Facts

- Glue for Post-Its was initially researched for super strong glue. It was found by accident and went in the drawer till invention of sticky block.
- the QWERTY layout was invented so the letter stamps don't hit so soon of common successive letter pairs.
- they are called “upper case” and “lower case” letters because they were separated into two boxes during book printing invention times.
- (round connector) uses hardware interrupts and is therefore with less latency as USB.
- HMDI over DVI with and audio is possible with a PiPico RP MCU nowadays O.o
- ESP32-C6 does not only have WiFi/BT/Zigbee but also an official elf-loader. There is ASIO too.
- TinyGL runs crossplattform and on several MCUs even with 3D (awesome for GUI)
- glitching MCUs for dumping firmware is feasible. Revive your bricked MCUs, revert PS4 to prev FW.

PICKit 2/3/3.5/4 differences

PICKit 2/3/3.5/4 differences

🔧 PICKit 2 (around 2005)
    ✅ Good for older 8-bit PICs (e.g., 16F, 18F)
❌ No support for newer chips (no support for newer PICs like PIC18F K-series)
❌ No support for MPLAB X IDE
✅ Has UART tool (basic serial debug)
💡 Best for legacy/hobby use only

⚙️ PICKit 3 (around 2010)
    ✅ Supports most 8/16-bit PICs
✅ Works with MPLAB X IDE
✅ Faster and more powerful than PICKIT 2
✅ Supports newer protocols and higher voltages.
❌ Many bad clones are unstable, poor voltage regulation
    ❌ No UART tool
💡 Okay for budget use—if you get a good clone

🛠️ PICKit 3.5 (enhanced clone)
✅ Same support as Pickit 3, but often with better components
✅ More stable VDD/VPP, some versions include external power supply option
✅ Proper buffering on ICSP lines
    ❌ No UART tool
💡 Not an official Microchip product, improved clone, often faster than v3
💡 Best value among clones — reliable for general use

🚀 Pickit 4 (official only)
✅ Supports all PICs, dsPICs, and newer MCUs (32-bit, AVR, SAM)
✅ Fastest programming, USB-C, SD card support
✅ Actively supported by MPLAB X and Microchip
    ❌ More expensive (~$50–$60)
💡 Best for professional or long-term use
